It was somehow easier to find time and motivation to commit words to anything but the atmosphere prior to retiring. Since April of 2015, energy previously directed to writing has managed to redirect to outdoor physical activity wherever and whenever possible.
This winter some combination of cold weather and snow and perhaps sloth has sparked a reemergence of desire and time to scribble and to save.

Five years
It takes a maple tree
five years to die
after it has been girdled
Some
equate this
with cruelty
Where is the line
respect for life
or does it not exist?

I do not wish to know...
...whether your email or photo came from your mobile device. Such labeling is frivolous and annoying.
That is all.
That is all.

Hudson December
Sanko Phoenix
bound for Albany
breaking quarter wave at the six foot shelf
(muted by floe still follows)
Would not think that a bulk carrier
could sneak up but
she's there exhaust shimmer from stack aft
soundless
but for thrum in gut

Bone stones
best found without seeking
two lines of limestones
parallel or close enough
walked past for three decades
wooded streamside
spring head
never spoke until its time
then was there
had been there
a body's length and width
dark soil between
no bed for sugar arch
perhaps for bones
mindless recognitions
some spirit sleeps here
or passed here
cairn not to be disturbed
at least by me
i stop and leave respect

Somehow...
...it has gotten to be summer of a sort. Nothing as debauched as leaves on trees, but the first eighty degree day has arrived and passed and one of the forsythias is actually blooming. Most years none of the forsythias manage to bloom - too many warm days followed by hard frosts. With the first three quarters of April having been in dull gray wet mode, the buds have survived.
